When Margaret Zinser became a glass artist in 2001, she was working as a lab scientist, preparing to start work on her master’s degree in entomology. She loved the technical challenge of working
with molten medium as it appealed to her scientific background. At the time, she used glass as a creative outlet from her exacting lab work. The fact that lampworked glass imposes few limits on shape, texture, and color developed her creative inclinations. Ultimately, that’s what pushed her to pursue beadmaking full time after finishing her master’s degree in 2004. Many of Margaret’s earlier bead series are studies in the color and texture of objects from the natural world. Such is the case of the two focals used in the necklaces shown below as I feature this fine glass artist on my website. Margaret’s work has been featured in Flow, Bead & Button, Step by Step Beads, Bead Unique, and in galleries in the United States, Canada, and Japan. She teaches group classes in studios nationwide and private classes in her studio in Tucson, Arizona.

The two focals featured in these necklaces were lampworked by Margaret Zinser. They are from her “Talisman Collection” and appropriately named as each has magical swirls in them as if to protect the wearer against evil spirits or the supernatural. Both focals are accented with smaller lampworked matching beads, various hues of jasper and Swarovski crystals and finished with textured sterling sliver chain and clasp.
